The "creative process" of Graham Wallas

At Erugart, when we create pieces of art, we don't do it "just like that". We follow the creative process defined by the English psychologist Graham Wallas.

This process consists of 5 steps:

  1. Observation - Identification – First of all, we need to pay attention to the world around us. what do we see what do we smell What textures do we play? how do we feel Without this exercise of observation, it is very difficult to take creative action.
  2. Study – Incubation – The second step is to determine the objective (or objectives) of our creative action: what do we want to achieve?
  3. Creation – Practice – Based on this objective, it is necessary to generate ideas. Brainstorming is an exercise in expansion: without a filter, we welcome all ideas. The more the better.
  4. intuition – Thanks to intuition, we are able to establish a choice. This is a selection exercise where, contrary to the previous step, we have to narrow down the options. Previous experience, practice, effort and subsequent work guide our instinct. In this step it is necessary to remember that there are no mistakes, but everything is learning.
  5. final work – The implementation of the chosen ideas and creative actions is the last point, but it is not the goal; when we make art we are not running a race, but following a creative process that, like the silk of a caterpillar, goes on and on and never ends.
